Title

3D Printed Microfluidic Device for Blood Plasma Separation

Abstract
To be able to obtain serum and blood plasma that are free of blood cells, centrifugation or coagulation is usually done so that the blood cells precipitate and separate from the serum and blood plasma. Techniques for separating serum or blood plasma by means of centrifugation and coagulation usually require a large volume of blood samples. Taking this large amount of blood can cause discomfort to the patient. Therefore, in this proposal we propose to manufacture a microfluidic device with 3D printing for the separation of serum or blood plasma. Microfluidic devices are devices that can manipulate fluid flow in micro quantities. With the existence of a microfluidic device, the required sample volume can be minimized down to the microliter scale. Microliters of blood can be taken using only the capillaries at the fingertips.
